3SHOTS - The Triptych Photography Festival is a spinoff of MAX3MIN - Very Short Film Festival, born with the goal to bring to its extreme the concept of the short film.
MAX3MIN showed us that a story can be told in three minutes, a world can change, complex feelings and reality in its multifacetedness. But how many frames compose a three minute video? And would three frames, three photos, be enough to clearly express the same themes? We believe yes: if it's true that media has been pushing us towards ever simplified forms of communication, in which the Instagram grid takes on great importance, it is also true that the art world has been showing us triptych art for centuries, whose only goal was to transform a single image into a well defined story; three images that concentrate one story, a story in three shots to watch and rewatch, just like the shorts of M3M.
Submissions are open online from 8th July to 30th September 2021 (postponed to 8th October). During these three months you can send your triptychs, not necessarily at the same time. The festival will take place from 18th to 21 November, with an awards ceremony taking place the last day.
There are no categories. Each author may submit up to three triptychs which will then be viewed by a heterogeneous selection committee. The selected triptychs will be showcased for three days within the online platform in a dedicated section. During the last night, the International Jury, composed of world renowned photography professionals, will announce the winner and the cash prize.
We ask photographers to tell stories. Stories enclosed in three shots, that talk about the universe, society or the simplicity of everyday life. To everyone else, we ask you to take the time to watch and observe these stories. The public will indeed be called upon to express their favorites for an audience award.
